This website is created by Maria Bethany. This pseudonym is an allusion to the female character in the Bible, Mary of Bethany, the sister of Lazarus and Martha. Mary used to sit at the feet of Jesus every chance she got, and listen to His teachings. Her sister, Martha, scolded Mary because she neglected her domestic chores in favor of spiritual enlightenment (an unusual behavior for a good woman in those days). Even so, Jesus defended His enthusiastic student, saying, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41)
The purpose of these pages is to present the Biblical worldview in a historic and social context, in contrast to the secular worldview that is prevalent today. Its goal is to round out the education of young people who have received little or no religious instruction, but who, nevertheless, wonder about the mysterious power of the Scriptures that has influenced our lives more than any other book ever written.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
(Matthew 6:22, 23)
